Navigate Insights

The Insights navigation is centered around customization capabilities and ease of use. All the functions you need are laid out in the sidebar.

Navigation elements in the Insights sidebar.

For you

A personalized hub where you can begin your search for the data that you need using Rovo. When you ask a question in Insights, it combines results from your Atlassian apps (like Jira and Confluence), Teamwork Graph, and Atlassian Data Lake with connected external data sources (like Snowflake or BigQuery). Insights respects your user permissions, so users can only see what they already have access to.

Here are some queries you can ask Rovo:

  • “How many Jira issues were created per month in the last 6 months?”

  • “Show me all goals that are behind schedule.”

  • "Show me the health status of all monitors in the workspace."

Analyses

Each query you ask Insights are stored in Analyses. Think of it as a personal and collaborative query workspace. Select the plus sign (+) to start a new query or select Analyses to access your query history. You can also access your recent analyses in the For You page.

Recent

Recent provides quick access to items you've most recently accessed. This can include tables/columns, analyses, dashboards, glossary terms, and documentation. It gives you a fast way to pick up where you left off without having to search or browse.

Starred

This is a bookmarking feature that lets you manually save your most important or frequently used items so you can reach them instantly. Select the Add to Starred option to add an item to this section.

Dashboards

This section holds all the dashboards you’ve created or have access to. Select the plus sign (+) to create a new dashboard or select Dashboards to access the full list of dashboards you have access to.

How to create dashboards

Data context

This section holds all the features that help enrich your data in Insights. This includes Glossary, Catalog, Data shares, and Data sources.

Glossary

The glossary is a curated collection of terms that gives everyone in your organization a shared, authoritative understanding of the data they work with. You can view existing terms and, based on your permission, you can include terms relevant to your team or organization, as well as specific definitions used in the business.

Manage the glossary

Catalog

The catalog is a searchable, browsable inventory of all your organization's data assets from your Atlassian apps (like Jira and Confluence) and connected external data sources (Databricks and BigQuery).

Manage the catalog

Data shares

The data shares page provides options to share dashboards and other data securely to external third-party apps.

Read about data shares

Data sources

The data sources page provides a full view of all connected internal and external data sources. This helps bring all your data assets and metadata into one place so you can spend less time context-switching and more time generating insights.

Customize sidebar

Customize your sidebar to only see the items that matter to you. Select Customize sidebar to reorder and hide navigation items.

Insights navigation for non-Rovo users

The experience will differ based on whether you use the Atlassian Analytics app.

Customers who use Atlassian Analytics

The Insights app is currently unavailable to customers who use Atlassian Analytics and do not have Rovo enabled. If you’d like to access Insights and its Rovo features, reach out to your organization admin to activate Rovo for your site. Read how to manage Rovo access

Customers who haven’t used Atlassian Analytics

If you haven’t accessed Atlassian Analytics but are on the Enterprise plan, you will have access to Insights even if you don’t have Rovo enabled.

You can still access some of Insights' new features without Rovo. You can manually create dashboards and access the glossary and data catalog in the Data context section.

Analyses will not be available in the non-Rovo experience and the For you page will show details about popular dashboards and the last dashboards you worked on.

However, for the best Insights experience, we recommend enabling Rovo to access its AI-powered features. Reach out to your organization admin to activate Rovo for your site. Read how to manage Rovo access
