Jira
How permission schemes work with AI agents
How an agent accesses a space and performs actions depends on its account configuration:
Agent’s account (autonomous): Agents operating with their own account act independently and receive permissions governed by the space’s permission scheme. To grant an agent specific permissions, a space admin adds the agent to a space role (such as the default Member role or a custom role) in space settings.
User’s account: Agents configured to run using a user's account execute tasks on behalf of the person who invoked them, inheriting that user's exact permissions without needing a separate space role or permission scheme assignment.
If your permission scheme grants a capability (such as Browse spaces or Create work items) to Any logged-in user, all autonomous agents with an Agent’s account on your Jira site will automatically have that baseline access in every space using that scheme, even if they haven't been assigned an explicit space role.
You can use Rovo to explain and troubleshoot Jira permissions. Open Rovo Chat and enter /manage-jira-permissions, then tell Rovo what problem you’re trying to solve, or ask for a rundown on your current permissions setup.
