Resolve space policy conflicts

Your Jira admin can apply a space policy to your team-managed space to standardize the availability of either fields or statuses (or both). Once a space policy has been applied to your space, you can only use global fields or statuses rather than creating space-specific ones.

A conflict occurs when your space already has space-specific fields or statuses that were created before the policy was applied. You can continue to work as normal using these space-specific fields and statuses, but if you’re an admin, you’ll see warnings that prompt you to resolve the conflicts.

View field and status conflicts

A conflict is detected when a space-specific field or status duplicates or overlaps with a global one.

To view field and status conflicts in your space settings:

2. Select Space policies.

3. If conflicts are detected, you’ll see a warning icon under the policy that contains conflicts. Select Conflicts to view a list of all the conflicts relevant to that policy.

4. From the list, select a conflict to open it in the side panel, where you can:

   1. View the field or status details, including all the spaces, work types, work items, and workflows where it’s used.

   2. Select the link to update the field or status in the relevant settings page.

To resolve a status conflict, you must replace any space-specific statuses with the equivalent global status in your workflow.

To view and resolve status conflicts in your workflow settings:

1. From your Jira board, select More actions (), then select Manage workflows.

2. In the workflow editor, look for a warning indicator on statuses that conflict with the space policy.

3. To resolve a conflict, select a status and then select Replace.

4. Select a global status to replace the space-specific status, and then select Replace status to save your changes.
