What gets copied to Sandbox

For selected Jira projects

When you copy Jira Software production data to your sandbox, you can either copy all your data or select specific projects. This means you can now copy only the data you want to test or experiment with to your sandbox.

Currently, the selective data copy option is available only for company-managed projects in Jira Software, with support for Jira Service Management coming in the future. There are some issue fields, configurations, and other project types that we don't support yet. This page outlines what is and isn't copied when you select the data from your production environment to your sandbox. Learn about copy production data

Users and groups

  • Any permissions settings (space or page) associated with groups will be lost during import unless a group with the same name already exists in the destination site. To maintain your groups' permissions settings, make sure all your groups have a corresponding group with the same name that already exists in the destination site before importing the space. An easy way to do this is to first import users and groups, then import any spaces.

Although automation rules aren’t automatically copied into a sandbox, you can manually export and import automation rules

When you copy new data into a sandbox, users and groups merge with the data you have in the sandbox

To ensure that your production environment and your users are not impacted, we don’t copy webhooks or OAuth tokens. We also disable app links, external email notifications, and integrations with Bitbucket and Slack.

It could take up to 2 days for Jira products and 13 days for Confluence to copy data from production into your sandbox. The larger size of the data being copied over, the longer it will take. We'll send you an email when it's complete.
