Once a tunnel is created and working, Atlassian Cloud apps can make any HTTP requests through it to your Data Center instances. Typically, they make requests to the REST API.
Such requests must be authenticated and authorized by your Data Center instance. This is being handled by application links that you configure (and authorize) when you connect your instances.
