What are permission schemes in Jira?

Permission schemes allow you to define what users can do within a space, as opposed to global permissions which define what users can do across your entire site.

These schemes can be shared with other spaces, but any changes will be applied to all that use it. How to create a new permission scheme

Space permission schemes, space roles, and work item security schemes aren’t available on Free Jira sites. More about Free plans

Use space roles to grant permissions

Along with users and groups, Jira admins can also grant capabilities to roles within a space that can later be defined by Space admins. Jira calls these space roles, and they give permission schemes the flexibility to be used in multiple spaces without granting unwanted access. It also allows Space admins to update permissions in their spaces without requiring help from a Jira admin.
