Activate AI for apps

AI is available and automatically activated for all apps on Standard, Premium, and Enterprise plans. Organization admins can manage AI preferences from Apps > AI settings > AI-enabled apps in Atlassian Administration.

AI is not available in Atlassian Government organizations or Confluence Cloud sandbox environments.

Who can do this?

Role: Organization admin

Atlassian Cloud: Standard, Premium, Enterprise

Atlassian Government Cloud: Not available

You can manage which apps your users can access AI in (including some Rovo features) by activating or deactivating AI.

Once you activate AI in an app, everyone in your organization will have access to AI features, including Rovo AI features like Agents and Chat. Some apps like Jira Service Management and Bitbucket Cloud may need extra configuration in their admin settings to manage AI features. Explore AI features

Activate AI in an app

To activate AI:

  1. Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Apps > AI settings > AI-enabled apps. You’ll see a table with apps that already have AI activated.

  3. Select Select apps to activate. You’ll see a list of apps that have AI features.

  4. Select the apps in which you want to activate AI.

  5. Select Next.

  6. Review your selection.

  7. Select Activate to confirm.

In sandbox environments, some features such as Atlassian Intelligence may not be available because of the environment’s specific settings and features.

Deactivate AI in an app

Deactivating AI will disable all current and upcoming AI features for that app. Any content previously generated by AI will remain.

  1. Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Apps > AI settings > AI-enabled apps. You’ll see a table with apps that already have AI activated.

  3. Select Remove for any of the apps where you want to deactivate AI.

  4. Review your selection and select Save to confirm.

Deactivating AI won’t affect Rovo Search and Studio as they are part of the Atlassian platform and are always available and always on. These core Rovo features can’t be disabled independently. If you deactivate AI for all apps, Rovo AI features like Agents and Chat will also be disabled.

Managing your data and AI

Activating or deactivating AI lets you manage which apps use AI and where AI experience show up for your users. If you have AI activated for any apps on a site, Rovo AI and other AI features can access and use data from any apps on the site. Admins should review Atlassian's AI data handling policies and take steps to manage data-sensitive environments based on your organization's privacy needs.

Any data processed through AI, including Rovo features, is securely transferred using SSL encryption and adheres to Atlassian's data protection guidelines. However, certain AI providers like OpenAI may process data in non-EU regions. More about our data processing practices and sub-processors
