We’re trialing team-managed projects in Jira Work Management. Some users may see the option to create a team-managed project.

Create and edit issues and subtasks on the calendar

Before you begin

You’ll need the:

  • Create Issues project permission for the issue's relevant project to create issues and subtasks.

  • Edit Issues project permission for the issue's relevant project to edit issues and subtasks.

Create an issue on the calendar

There are a few ways to create issues on the calendar:

  1. Select the date the issue will be due on the calendar. This will automatically become the due date of the issue.

  2. A text field will appear. Start typing to give your issue a name.

  3. Choose which type of issue you’d like to create from the dropdown. All issue types associated with your business project except for subtasks, will be included. Learn more about creating subtasks.

  4. Press enter on your keyboard to create your issue.

Another way you can create an issue that will already have the start date and due date filled in is by:

  1. Select and drag your cursor across multiple dates to create an issue. This will automatically become the start and due date of the issue.

  2. A text field will appear. Start typing to give your issue a name.

  3. Choose which type of issue you’d like to create from the dropdown. All issue types associated with your business project except for subtasks, will be included. Learn more about creating subtasks.

  4. Press enter on your keyboard to create your issue. The issue will appear in the calendar spanned across the dates you’ve selected.

Manage your issue’s start and due dates from within the calendar

You can manage your issue’s start date and due dates from within the calendar without opening the issue’s detailed view.

  • To move the issue to a different due date, drag and drop it to the new due date

  • Adjust an issue’s start and end dates by selecting and dragging the edges of the issue. You can drag the right edge across multiple days to extend the due date or change the start date by dragging the left edge in either direction.

View and edit issues in more detail on the calendar

To view an issue in more detail on the calendar:

  1. Select the issue you want to edit.

  2. The issue view will open, where you can view and edit its description, status, assignee, and other information in more detail.

Tasks and subtasks

Break down tasks into smaller subtasks in your list view. Subtasks are smaller tasks that relate to the task's overarching objective.

You can create subtasks if your business project has subtasks as a default issue type.

To create a subtask, you'll need to:

  1. Select which task you’d like to create a subtask for. The issue view will open, where you can view more details about that task.

  2. Select Create subtask

  3. Enter a summary of what needs to be done for this subtask.

  4. Select Create, or press enter.
