Use the AI writing assistant to help write or edit content

How do I activate AI features?

AI features are available for Bitbucket Cloud workspaces and can be activated by a workspace administrator.

  1. Select the Settings cog on the top navigation bar > select Workspace settingsAI on the left sidebar.

  2. Review and accept the AI terms of use.

  3. Select Activate.

To deactivate AI features, go to the same page in Workspace settings and click Deactivate. After deactivation, your workspace will retain any previously written AI content.

Enable or disable the AI writing assistant

When you activate AI in Bitbucket, the AI writing assistant is enabled by default. To disable the AI writing assistant specifically, select the toggle associated with the AI writing assistant.

How do I use the AI writing assistant?

Explore the possibilities for generating new content or improving existing text in your pull request description or comments. Follow the steps below to make the most of this tool:

Generate new content

  1. Create or open an existing pull request.

  2. Select the writing assistant icon from the editor toolbar in the pull request description or a comment.
    You can also access the AI writing assistant in the editor text field by typing /ai.

  3. Type in a prompt or select an option from the list.

  4. Select .

  5. Once finished, you can save the response to your comment or follow up with an additional prompt.

Edit existing content

The AI writing assistant can be used to quickly improve your writing by finding typos, simplifying language, and more.

  1. While in the edit mode, highlight text in an existing comment.

  2. Select the writing assistant button that appears above the highlighted text.

  3. Type in a prompt or select an option from the list.

  4. Select .

  5. Once finished, you can save the response to your comment or follow up with an additional prompt.
