We’ve modernized and optimized the experience to create issues to make it fast, scalable and consistent with the issue view experience. Read on for more about the new issue create experience’s features, its differences from the old experience, and information to make your transition to the new experience easier.
Say hello to a faster way of creating issues in Jira. While we haven’t made changes to the layout to keep your transition to the new experience smooth, we’ve made this experience faster, redesigned it, and added new features. With improved keyboard accessibility, everyone can create issues without any hassles.
We haven’t changed the way you create your issues in Jira, but we’ve modernized and optimized the process so you can create them faster.
Project: Select the project you want to create the issue in. Learn more about the different project types in Jira.
Issue type: Select the issue type of the issue you want to create. Issue types are configured for the project you’ve selected. Learn more about issue types.
Fields: Enter the relevant details to create your issue. Note: Some fields, like Summary, are mandatory to create issues.
More menu: Specify what fields you want to see while creating an issue. Note: You’ll be able to see Find your field only if you’re a Jira admin for a company-managed project.
The New Atlassian editor: Say hello to this new editor that comes with a cleaner look, markdown support, and industry-standard keyboard shortcuts.
Keeping performance and scale in mind, we’ve backed the new issue create experience with a modernized technology stack so that you can create issues in no time.
The new editor has a cleaner look, markdown support, and industry-standard keyboard shortcuts. The editor converts things like links, code, and markdown on-the-fly, so you can paste in your content and let the editor do the work. Learn more about markdown and keyboard shortcuts.
Common markdown formatting options:
## for H2 style (we support H2–H5)
**bold** for bold
*italic* for italic

Customize the fields you want to see while creating issues of a particular issue type by selecting Show fields from the more menu () at the top right corner. The new layout will show you the fields that are currently configured for the issue type.
Select All fields to see the fields configured for the issue type on the issue create screen. You can also select Custom fields to handpick the fields you want to see on the screen.

This feature is only available when you’re creating an issue in a company-managed project, and you must be a Jira admin. Learn more about global permissions.
Select Find your field from the more menu () at the top right corner. You can then find out why a field isn’t showing up in the project.
You can now change the issue color while creating an issue in a company-managed project. Go to Issue color and select a color from the options to change the color.
You can restrict who can view the issue while you’re creating it. Go to Restrict to and select the roles you want to restrict the issue to. You’ll know if you’re not a part of the role(s) that you’ve selected.
You can't edit project permissions or roles on the Free plan for Jira Software or Jira Work Management, and you can't configure issue-level security on any Free plan (including Jira Service Management). Find out more about how project permissions work in Free plans. To take advantage of Jira's powerful project permission management features, upgrade your plan.
You don’t have to go look for the issues you’ve created as you can see and share them right from the screen. Select View issue to see the issue you’ve created. If you’ve created multiple issues, select View issues to see the list of issues you’ve created in one go. Select Copy link to share the issue(s) you’ve created.
Many of the features above came from your feedback and we don’t plan to stop listening. We’re currently working on these focus areas:
Support for new fields: Add Watchers and Reporters to an issue type while creating an issue.
Other ways to create issues: You can see this experience only when you select Create in the top navigation bar, or press C to create issues. We haven’t enabled this experience for other ways to create issues yet, but we’re working on it.
These aren’t the only improvements as we’ll be adding more features soon.
You can see the new issue create experience when you:
Select Create in the top navigation bar to create an issue.
Press C to create an issue.
We haven’t enabled the new experience for other ways to create issues yet, but we’re working on it. If you choose to create issues in another way, you’ll be using the old experience.
