As of May 2024, Overviews have been combined with Plans for customers who have a Jira Premium and Enterprise license. Read more about this change on our community blog.
If you see the Plans tab at the top of your page, you can find documentation for this experience here: Head over to the documentation for Plans.
This page refers to the Overviews tool that’s found only in business projects for users with Jira Work Management or Jira Service Management Cloud Premium and Enterprise standalone licenses.
Choose how you want to visualize your overview in the summary, calendar, or timeline view.
The summary page is where you’ll get an aggregated outline of the business projects in your overview. The summary page works almost exactly the same as it does when you’re in a business project, the only difference is that the Recent activity and Related projects tiles won’t be included in your overview. Learn more about the summary page view.
Use the calendar in your overview to help visualize and plan work. Using the calendar view allows your teams to see when work across multiple projects is due. Learn more about the calendar view.
Here’s what you can do using the calendar in an overview:
Edit your issues as you normally would in the calendar. Learn more about editing issues in the calendar view.
Schedule items by adding a due date to items by dragging them onto your calendar. Learn more about scheduling items in your calendar.
Filter the issues in your overview. Learn more about filtering issues.
In an overview, you’re unable to create items in the context of your calendar view. You can however use the Create button in the main horizontal navigation at the top of your screen. You’ll just need to select the project you’re creating the issue for when creating an issue. Learn how to create an issue anywhere in Jira.
The timeline view helps visualize the timing, duration, and dependencies of issues within the business projects that are included in your overview. Get an aggregated view of how long work may take in each project and when things will land. Learn more about the timeline view.
Here’s what you can do using the timeline in an overview:
Edit your issues as you normally would in the timeline in your overview. Learn more about editing issues in the timeline view.
Reorder issues on your overview’s timeline. Learn more about reordering issues on your timeline.
Add or adjust start and due dates on the timeline. Learn more about changing dates on the timeline.
Filter the issues in your overview. Learn more about filtering issues.
Link issues to highlight dependencies that are happening between different issues and projects. Learn more about adding, viewing, and removing dependencies between issues.
In an overview, you’re unable to create items in the context of your timeline view. You can however use the Create button in the main horizontal navigation at the top of your screen. You’ll just need to select which project you’re creating the issue for when creating an issue. Learn how to create an issue anywhere in Jira.
