How Assets are migrated

Assets is an asset and configuration management feature included with Premium and Enterprise plans in Jira Service Management Cloud.

The Jira Cloud Migration Assistant allows you to migrate object schemas from server / Data Center to Cloud. An object schema is the actual configuration management database that contains your object types and objects.

Supported version of Assets

You need to be on the supported version of Assets:

  • For Jira Service Management Data Center 4.15 and higher, it’s the bundled version of Assets.

Limitations of Assets Migration

When migrating Assets, there are a few important limitations to be aware of:

  • Attribute names in AQL queries may not be automatically sanitized during migration.

  • A maximum of 20 objects per work item can be associated with a single custom field. Any additional associations will not be migrated.

  • The number of old/new values within each object history entry is capped at 100.

  • Cloud enforces a maximum of 2 unique constraints per object type, and duplication within a unique constraint is not allowed.

  • Certain data limits apply in Cloud; these are detailed in this table. You can bring your data within these limits for the major feature types by performing data cleanup, as described on this page.

How best to migrate Assets

Here are a few tips on the best way to migrate Assets.

Same object schema cannot be migrated twice. To re-migrate the object schema, you need to delete it from cloud.

Migrate projects along with the object schemas

  1. Review the Check if you’ve exceeded asset entities limit section in the Jira pre-migration checklist to check the limit.

  2. Jira Cloud Migration Assistant を開きます。

  3. Go to the Choose your migration options screen.

  4. On the Projects card, click Select or Edit.

  5. Select the first set of projects you want to migrate.

  6. On the Assets card, click Select or Edit.

  7. Select Only object schemas related to select projects or All object schemas.

  8. Make other selections.

  9. Run the migration.
Object schema linking will automatically happen in cloud.

First migration → Migrate all object schemas first
Subsequent migrations → Migrate relevant projects

To migrate all object schemas first:

  1. Review the Check if you’ve exceeded asset entities limit section in the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant pre-migration checklist to check the limit.

  2. Jira Cloud Migration Assistant を開きます。

  3. In the Choose your migration options screen, skip selection of projects.

  4. On the Assets card, click Select or Edit.

  5. In the Select Assets screen, select All object schemas.

  6. Make other selections.

  7. Run the migration.

Subsequent migrations: To migrate relevant projects

  1. In the Choose your migration options screen, select the relevant projects you want to migrate.

  2. In the Select Assets screen, select Only object schemas related to select projects, All object schemas, or None.

  3. Make other selections.

  4. Run the migration.

Object schema linking will automatically happen as and when projects are available in cloud.

If you migrate projects first, and then object schemas in subsequent migrations, linking will not happen.
