What is a space policy?
Space policies is currently in open beta. Functionality and settings may vary depending on your site configuration. Read more about the space policies rollout
Space policies let you define guardrails for team-managed spaces without removing teams' ability to self-serve. When a space policy is active, admins can’t create fields and statuses at the space level. Teams can still use any global fields and statuses available on your Jira site.
This helps you:
Reduce duplicate fields and inconsistent statuses across spaces.
Enable team-managed space creation while maintaining configuration standards.
Apply consistent standards to both new and existing spaces.
What a space policy restricts
A space policy prevents teams from creating new space-specific fields or statuses. Instead, it enforces the use of existing global options across your spaces.
There are different ways to apply policies to team-managed spaces. You can:
add a policy to an existing space
add a policy to a space that’s the basis for a custom template; in this scenario, any new spaces created from the template will inherit the same policy as the template
set a policy as the default for all new spaces
Changes to a space policy take effect immediately across all the spaces associated with that policy. If a third-party app tries to create a local field or status in a space with a policy applied, the API request is blocked.
