Optimize space roles per user in a space
The site optimizer helps Jira administrators identify users who have many space role memberships and remove memberships that are no longer needed. Keeping role memberships manageable can help maintain permission-check performance as your organization grows.
A user has a recommended guardrail of 2,000 space roles across the site. A guardrail is a best-practice threshold, not an enforced limit. Exceeding it won’t prevent admins from assigning more roles, but it may affect performance for that user.
This feature is available only on Jira Premium and Enterprise plans. Jira admin permissions are required.
To review space roles per user:
Select Settings (), then select System.
Select Site optimizer.
In the Guardrails section, find Space roles per user, and select Review.
The Analysis tab shows:
users who are approaching or exceeding the guardrail
the number of space roles assigned to each user
the recommended guardrail
how the number of space roles per user has changed over time
Under Clean up space roles, select a user to review their role assignments across spaces and remove role memberships that are no longer needed.
If many users need the same access, you can use group-based memberships instead of assigning users to roles individually.
You should review each change before removing a user from a role, because it may affect their access to a space.
The Activity log shows actions completed through the site optimizer, including when each action was completed, who completed it, a summary of the change, and the number of affected records.
