As a Jira administrator, you can more easily manage your field configurations by associating field configurations with issue types within a field configuration scheme. You can then associate the field configuration scheme with a project.

To configure the layout of the new Jira issue view—which fields appear and the order they appear in—open an issue and choose Configure at the bottom-right. To find out more about configuring the issue layout, check out Configure field layout in the issue view.

How to associate an issue type with a field configuration

  1. Select > Issues.
  2. In the Fields section, click Field configuration schemes.
  3. Find the field configuration scheme and click Configure.
  4. Click Associate an issue type with a field configuration and choose the issue type and field configuration you would like to associate with this scheme. 
  5. Click Add
  • An issue type can only be associated with one field configuration within a field configuration scheme.
  • If you do not specify an issue type association, the issue type will automatically be associated with the default configuration within the field configuration scheme.

How to edit the field configuration associated with an issue type

  1. Select > Issues.
  2. In the Fields section, click Field configuration schemes.
  3. Find the field configuration scheme and click Configure
  4. Find the issue type association you want to update and click Edit.
  5. Select the new field configuration you would like to associate with this issue type.
  6. Click Update.

How to remove an issue type association

  1. Select > Issues.
  2. In the Fields section, click Field configuration schemes.
  3. Find the field configuration scheme and click Configure
  4. Find the issue type association you want to remove and click Delete. Note that you cannot remove the default configuration from the scheme. 

How to associate a field configuration scheme with a project

Once you have associated a field configuration with an issue type within a field configuration scheme, you can associate the field configuration scheme with a project to apply your changes. 

  1. Go to your project and click Project settings
  2. Click Fields.
  3. Click Actions > Use a different scheme.
  4. Select the scheme you want to associate with this project.

  5. Click Associate.
