A deactivated user is someone who has either been deactivated in the Trello Workspace, or whose entire Atlassian account is deactivated.

Users who have been deactivated in a Trello Workspace can still access non-Workspace content that their account had access to (such as content on other Workspaces, or their own private boards).

Users whose Atlassian account is deactivated can’t log in, so they can’t access Trello or any other Atlassian products.

Workspace admins can deactivate any user in a paid Trello Workspace. Deactivated users do not consume a license in a Standard or Premium Workspace.

Deactivating a user leaves them assigned to cards and boards, while removing a user from the Workspace will remove them from all boards and cards completely.

Deactivate a user in a Workspace

To deactivate a Workspace member:

  1. Open the Workspace Members page

  2. Find the user you want to deactivate and select Remove

  3. In the resulting menu, select Deactivate

Reactivate a user

Reactivated users will regain access to Workspace-visible boards and any boards in the Workspace of which they're a member. Workspace admins can reactivate a user from the Worksapce members section by selecting Reactivate

If the Reactivate button is missing, it likely means the user’s Atlassian account is managed and was deactivated by their organization admin.

Trello Workspace admins can’t reactivate a user’s Atlassian account. That user will need to contact their organization admin. More about reactivating a managed account
