Start a content scan of your data at rest

Start a content scan of your data at rest

You can initiate a content scan at any time. It can scan content at rest within your organization’s sites, covering Confluence and Jira apps. What is a content scan?

Who can do this?
Role:Organization admins, Guard Detect admins
Plan: Atlassian Guard Premium
Atlassian Government Cloud:Available

A content scan is likely to take hours to days, depending on the size of your organization’s data. You can add more scans to your queue, but only one will be processed at a time. Scans are capped to three scans every 90 days. Once you’ve reached your limit, you will need to wait until the cap timeframe has passed before the next content scan begins. If you wish to run a shorter test scan first, you can select individual Confluence or Jira sites. This still counts as one of your scans. You can see how many content scans you’ve run from Guard Detect, along with your content scan history and options to manage them.

Start a content scan

When you start a content scan, you can select what you’d like to scan. Make sure you’ve set up any custom detections you wish to scan before you start a content scan. What is a content scan?

  1. In Guard Detect, select Content scan from the header.

  2. Select Start new scan.

  3. If you’re presented with a dialog box, read the information, check the checkbox to confirm you’ve understood it, then select Next.

  4. Select the option that suits your needs — either all Jira and Confluence apps, or your selection of specific Atlassian apps.

  5. Select Start scan. A dialog box will confirm the scan has been created.

  6. Select Close.

Your scan will be listed in the scan history.

Manage a content scan

The Content scan page provides some actions to manage each content scan. The status of a content scan determines which actions are available. For example, if a content scan has successfully completed, you’ll see an option to download the results as a compressed CSV file. You can always view which apps were selected for the content scan, regardless of the status of the scan.

  1. In Guard Detect, select Content Scan from the header.

  2. Select More actions () for the scan you’re interested in.

  3. Select an action from the options available.

Once you’ve downloaded your content scan results, you can review them and decide what to do next. Review your content scan results
