Data contribution settings
We’re updating how we use customer data so we can improve our apps and AI experiences for all customers. Learn more about this change
Data contribution settings let you control whether Atlassian can use metadata and in-app data from your Atlassian organization to improve Atlassian apps and services for all customers. Understand the settings listed on this page so that you can make informed decisions about your metadata and in-app data contributions. More about data contribution
To view your settings, navigate to Atlassian Administration, then Security, and then Data contribution.
Default data contribution settings
Depending on the highest active plan in your Atlassian organization your in-app data contribution setting is either set to On or Off at the organization level. You can change this default setting and also choose to include or exclude in-app data from specific Atlassian apps, spaces, or Teamwork Graph connectors. The metadata contribution setting isn’t available for all plans.
Some Atlassian customers, including those with specific compliance requirements, may see different defaults in Atlassian Administration.
Atlassian will begin to use data according to the data contribution settings on August 17, 2026.

Default settings when you have apps on different plans
Your default data contribution settings are determined by the highest active plan within your Atlassian organization. If you have questions about your settings, contact support.
The highest active plan is the highest subscription in your Atlassian organization, including any trials. It excludes inactive subscriptions.
Here are some examples that explain how your default data contribution settings are determined.
Scenario | App plans in your Atlassian organization (with highest active plan in bold) | Default data contribution settings |
|---|---|---|
You have a single Atlassian organization | Confluence (Free) Jira (Standard) | In-app data contribution is On. Metadata is contributed. |
You have a single Atlassian organization | Confluence (Standard) Jira (Premium trial) | In-app data contribution is Off. Metadata is contributed. |
You have a single Atlassian organization | Confluence (Free) Jira (Standard) Jira Product Discovery (Premium) | In-app data contribution is Off. Metadata is contributed. |
You have a single Atlassian organization | Confluence (Free) Jira (Enterprise) | In-app data contribution is Off. Metadata is On. |

Include or exclude in-app data
To control your data contributions, you can include or exclude the following types of in-app data:
Atlassian apps
Spaces within Atlassian apps
Teamwork Graph connectors
When your in-app data contribution setting is:
On, you can choose to exclude in-app data from any specific spaces, apps, or Teamwork Graph connectors that you don’t want to contribute
Off, you can choose to include in-app data from any specific spaces, apps, or Teamwork Graph connectors that you want to contribute
Settings for new apps in your organization
New apps that you add to your Atlassian organization will follow your existing data contribution settings.
When you change your data contribution settings, your organization-level data contribution settings will apply to any new apps or connectors that you add later.
When you add a new app, we begin using the metadata and in-app data of that app after 30 days. This gives you time to review and adjust the data contribution settings for that app.
When you add a new space to an existing app, we begin using the metadata and in-app data at the time you create the space.
Settings for apps when you upgrade or downgrade plans
When you change plans, we retain your selections wherever possible.
If you upgrade your plan and additional data contribution settings become available, we’ll inform you so you can adjust them as needed.
If you downgrade your plan, we will not change your settings to the default of your new highest active plan. However, if you currently have a Cloud Enterprise plan in your Atlassian organization and you move to a plan that doesn’t offer a data contribution setting for metadata, metadata contribution will be turned on. In that case, we’ll notify you and give you 30 days to review your new data contribution settings before we begin to use this data according to your new configuration.
When the highest active plan in your Atlassian organization changes from:
Enterprise to Free, Standard, or Premium, you’ll lose the ability to control metadata contribution
Free, Standard, or Premium to Enterprise, you can choose to stop contributing metadata
