Set space admin controls and defaults

Data classification rules are part of an early access program. You may see a difference between the information below and your Guard administration experience.

Before you set space admin controls, make sure you understand how data classifications work.

What is data classification?

Who can do this?
Role: Confluence space admin, Jira apps space admin

Atlassian Government Cloud: Available

Set space admin controls

You can use this setting to control whether space admins can set a default classification level to any level of sensitivity, or restricted to a more sensitive level only.

To set whether users can update classification levels:

  1. Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Security > Data protection > Data classification.

  3. Select the Settings tab to display a list of settings.

  4. Select the Space admin controls setting.

  5. From the slide-out panel, select from the options available.

  6. Select Update, then Update again to confirm your choice.

Set a space default data classification level

Make sure your spaces are also set to any intended default classification levels.

The process for setting a default classification level at the app level varies depending on whether you are using Confluence or Jira apps.
