FastShift migration stages and data handling
During your participation in the FastShift program, Atlassian will guide you through the assessment, planning, preparation, testing, and migration stages as we migrate your existing self-managed product data to Atlassian Cloud.
Before we begin the migration, we will check if you qualify for the FastShift program.
You will work with Atlassian to confirm that you meet the eligibility criteria and that you are committed to migrating to the cloud.
You’ll review and agree to the program description and terms to ensure mutual understanding and agreement on the details.

For an even smoother experience, you could also consider working with a Cloud Specialized Partner and/or Atlassian Advisory Services, who, for an additional cost, can handle all your FastShift responsibilities and provide strategic guidance.
Migration stages
Your dedicated FastShift team will then take you through the stages of a migration.
Assess
We’ll schedule a call to discuss and confirm the information needed to tailor the migration process to your needs.
Plan
Collaborate with us to define a mutually agreed-upon scope. This scope will include, but is not limited to, the requirements, objectives, and prioritization of your migration. If any changes to that scope arise during the migration, you can discuss them with your dedicated FastShift team.
Prep
Complete pre-migration checklist
Complete a checklist to make sure all necessary preparations are made for a smooth migration. Once complete, you’ll submit the report for Atlassian to review.
Data cleanup
Follow our tailored guidance to optimize your data and ensure it’s ready for a smooth migration. This includes performing any necessary backups.
Review
We’ll examine your pre-migration report and address any clarifying questions to ensure we are well-prepared for the next steps. We'll also confirm that you have active, paid subscriptions or entitlements to Atlassian (and any other) products, such as apps, involved in the program (including the cloud versions).
Data transfer
Securely transfer your prepared data to Atlassian so we can perform the test and production migrations.
Test
Initial test migration
We’ll conduct an initial test migration to identify any issues, review the post-migration logs, and share them with you to validate what data did not migrate successfully. We’ll work to address any issues.
Second Test Migration
We’ll perform a second test migration to ensure all issues are resolved.
User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
You’ll conduct UAT and share any remaining concerns with the FastShift team. Read about UAT
Additional testing
If necessary, we may perform further test migrations to ensure everything is ready for the production migration.
Customer approval
Once you’re satisfied, sign off to proceed with the production migration. Your production migration must be scheduled within 7 days of UAT sign-off. You will confirm a production migration date and communicate any necessary migration downtime or change freeze to your stakeholders.
Migrate
Production migration
We’ll help you move your data securely and efficiently onto the cloud.
Validation
Once the migration is complete, you can review and validate the results to ensure everything is in order.
Post migration
Complete post-migration tasks
We’ll collaborate to wrap up any remaining tasks to ensure everything is running smoothly.
Resolve issues
We’ll address any post-migration issues within the agreed scope.
Adoption
You’ll partner with your Customer Success Manager, who will help you drive change management and adoption of your new cloud apps. They’ll share cloud adoption resources and best practices, helping you build a change management plan that ensures your end-users are successfully onboarded to their new cloud apps so they can realize the value of the cloud sooner.

Handling your data
We are continuing to evolve and improve the FastShift program, with a focus on enhancing its security and compliance capabilities.
User-based permissions have been instituted to manage access to customer data during migration processes. Access is restricted to designated engineers within the Migration Support, Cloud Transition, and Platform Engineering teams who are directly involved in these migrations. When accessing customer data for any described purpose under the FastShift program, designated engineers will ensure that access is limited solely to the extent necessary and only for as long as necessary.
All customer data involved in the migration is securely housed within Atlassian’s systems on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This data is protected by encryption at rest, using a key management service (KMS) key.
