Understand data classification settings

Data classification rules are part of an early access program. You may see a difference between the information below and your Guard administration experience.

Data classification settings let you control how your classification levels work. For example, you might set a default level for your organization, and choose how space admins can set space defaults. You can also use your data classification settings to control whether users can manually classify content, and under what circumstances.

Data classification settings overview

Organization default

The organization default is a baseline classification level that will be automatically applied to all new or unclassified content across your organization. If a specific space does not have its own default set, it inherits this organization-wide level.

By default, this is set to no classification.

Classification rules

This setting lets you enable or disable automated classification rules. When you first configure classification rules, this setting becomes enabled. You can use this setting to turn off classification rules entirely, and remove any effect of classification levels applied by rules. This means content objects that were automatically updated by a classification rule will revert to their previous classification level (if one existed).

By default, classification rules are disabled.

スペース管理者によるコントロール

Control whether space admins can set a default classification level to any level of sensitivity, or restricted to a more sensitive level only.

Classification levels for your organization, spaces, and content objects follow a hierarchy. Make sure you understand how the hierarchy works before updating your settings. What is data classification?

Who can manually classify content

This setting controls which users have the permission to manually change the classification level of individual content, such as a page, blog post, or work item. With this setting, you can choose who can change a classification level for content.

オプション

影響

Anyone with edit access

Any user who has access to edit a content object can change its classification level.

これはデフォルトの設定です。

Space admins only

Only space admins can change the classification level of a content object.

Jira space admins must have edit access to work items before they can update a classification level for a content object.

No one can manually classify content

This option ensures the classification level of a content object in your organization can never be manually updated.

When you select this option, it disables the setting for users to update levels set by rules.

By default, this is set to Anyone.

Set who can manually classify content

Users can update levels set by rules

This setting is dependent on two others:

  • Classification rules (must be set to On)

  • Users can update levels (must be set to either Anyone with edit access or Space admins only)

オプション

影響

Can update to a more sensitive level than assigned by the rule

A content object can be manually updated to the same or a more sensitive classification level than what the rule set.

Can update to a more sensitive level than default or to default

A content object can be manually updated to a more sensitive classification level than the default, or to the same sensitivity as the default classification level.

Neither option is selected when this is enabled, so there is no default.

Set whether users can update content object classifications set by rules
