Run pre-migration checks, review, and run a Jira migration
After you create a migration plan, the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant runs a set of pre-migration checks to make sure your data can be migrated to cloud.
It checks that, for example:
Cloud apps are installed in the destination site
Users and customers have unique and valid email addresses
You don’t exceed your user or storage limit
Run pre-migration checks
To run pre-migration checks:
Progress through your migration plan until you reach the Pre-migration checks screen
View the details of your migration plan from the Migrations dashboard
Save time while running your pre-migration checks
Upgrade to the latest version of Jira Cloud Migration Assistant to avoid rerunning time-consuming pre-migration checks.
In the latest version:
You can resolve some data preparation errors by downloading a separate CSV file, entering the required data, and upload the file back to resolve the error.
The results of successful pre-migration checks are stored to improve efficiency, which helps speed up future checks and saves time.
Note:
It's recommended to run the pre-migration checks at least a few days before the migration day. This'll ensure that:
any modifications made to the data are validated and stored in the cache
the duration of running the pre-migration check is minimised, saving time on the migration day
The cached results are stored only for 30 days, beyond which they are automatically removed and all checks run again.
The pre-migration checks are divided into the following groups:
System
Users and groups
Customers
Projects
Cross-project boards and filters
Advanced Roadmaps plans
Assets
You can expand each check to see information on how to fix the related problems.

Stopping running pre-migration checks
You can stop the pre-migration checks under the ‘data preparation’ category for your plan if it appears to be stuck, taking too long to complete, or if you’ve changed your mind about what data you want to migrate.
After you’ve stopped (it may take a few minutes to take effect) the data preparation pre-migration checks, this action cannot be reversed.
We recommend that you:
Contact your Migration Partner or Atlassian if you are seeing:
pre-migration checks frequently taking too long
pre-migration checks frequently failing due to server errors (i.e. not due to the data errors)
data preparation pre-migration checks failing to stop after the button is pressed
You can find the Stop button at the bottom of the Pre-migration checks screen when data preparation checks are running. All other types of checks cannot be stopped and will continue running until they complete, and/or if the plugin is restarted.
Review your migration
After you’ve reviewed and fixed the checks, you can proceed to reviewing your migration.
To review your migration:
Progress through your migration plan until you reach the Review migration screen
View the details of your migration plan from the Migrations dashboard
When reviewing the migration, it’s useful to download the pre-migration report. It shows problems that require your attention, but also provides many details on the data that you’re migrating.

Run or save your migration
After you reviewed the details of your migration, you can run or save it. In both cases, it will be saved to the dashboard where you can see the details and monitor the progress if you decided to run it.
To run your migration, select Run.
To save your migration for later, select Save.
You’ll be moved to the Migrations dashboard where you can see your migration and monitor the progress.
Next steps
Once you’re done, check the details of your migration or see how it’s progressing.
