Data Manager is included in all Service Collection Premium and Enterprise plans.

The primary key is the value that is used by Data Manager to identify how unique objects are defined from data sources. This process has two parts:

  1. An alignment step where Data Manager maps the primary key from each data source onto a shared identity to decide which rows refer to the same records. If Data Manager is unable to determine the primary key for a data source, an error will be generated and the merge will not proceed.

  2. A merge step, where Data Manager merges the values from different data source according to the data source priority.

For example, we’re merging data from ServiceNow, Lansweeper, and Flexera. We decide to use Serial Number as the primary key, since it exists natively in all three apps.

  • When we run the cleanse operation using the "Eliminate duplicate or NULL primary keys" cleansing rule, Data Manager removes all records with a duplicate or NULL Serial Number.

  • When we run the merge operation, Data Manager matches the remaining records based on their Serial Number, and then uses priority to establish from which data source and attribute the final values are derived.
