Assets in Jira vs Assets in Jira Service Management

Assets works across Jira and Jira Service Management, and the core of it is the same in both. This page explains what is shared, what differs, and how to decide where to set things up.

Assets is available on paid Jira plans, paid Jira Service Management plans, and Teamwork Collection sites.

What both products support

The Assets platform is the same in Jira and in Jira Service Management. In both, you can create and manage schemas, object types, objects, attributes, references, statuses, and icons; search with AQL; import and export data; use object and schema graphs; bulk edit objects; and connect Assets objects to Jira work items through the Assets custom field.

What differs between Jira and Jira Service Management

The main difference is the service-management layer. Portal, request, and other service-management workflows are part of Jira Service Management, not the Assets platform, so they are not available in plain Jira.

Object allowances also differ by plan. For the allowance included with each plan, see What’s in Assets for Cloud?, and for how usage and limits work, see Manage Assets usage and limits.

Jira Service Management adds a service-management layer on top of the Assets platform. If you use it, you also get:

  • SLAs and service-level tracking

  • Advanced forms

  • Incident and change management

  • A service desk out of the box

  • ITIL-aligned practices that are hard to build in plain Jira

  • Customer-facing intake channels beyond Confluence hubs and forms

  • More Rovo credits on higher plans

If you only need to model and connect your data, the Assets platform in Jira covers that. If you need to run service management around it, that is where Jira Service Management comes in.

If you use Jira, you can start with Assets on your existing site. To set up your first schema and object, see Get started with Assets, and for the Jira-specific steps, see Getting started with Assets in Jira.
