What is a reference?

Assets is included with Service Collection Paid plans (Standard, Premium, and Enterprise). What Assets is and how it works.

Display name is currently restricted to customers enrolled in the Beta trial of the Assets common data model. Some details may change before general availability.

A reference in Assets connects two objects through attributes.

Reference types have their own Name (the system identifier used in AQL and integrations) and Display name (the name shown to users in Assets). There are two types of references:

  • Outbound references: Point from the current object to another object.

  • Inbound references: Point from another object to the current one.

Each reference can also have a Reference type to describe the relationship, such as ‘Dependency’, ‘Link’, or ‘Replaced by’. This provides a detailed view of how objects are interconnected within your schema.
