Create an Assets object custom field
To create or edit Assets object custom fields, users must have a Jira license.
Before creating an Assets object field, you need to link an Assets object to a Jira work item.
Link an Assets object to a Jira work item
In your Jira site, go to Settings (top right of your global navigation bar).
Under Jira settings, select Work items.
In the sidebar, choose Custom fields.
Select Create custom field, then All.
Scroll or search to find Assets objects, then select it.
Give your field a Name and a Description.
Select the screens you want to add the field to.
This connects the field to work items in specific projects.
Use the project key to find the projects you want to include.
Select Update.
You’ve now created the field and linked it to the project. The next step is to configure the Assets object field.
An Assets object custom field can store up to 20 objects.
Create an Assets object custom field
From Assets, select Custom fields in the navigation sidebar.
Under the Type column, find your Assets object field (or search the name).
Select More actions (…), then Contexts and default value.
Select Edit Assets objects.
Select the object schema the field should access.
[Optional] Add an AQL query in Filter scope (AQL) to filter objects based on attributes. Learn more about AQL
[Optional] Add an AQL query in Filter work scope (AQL) to filter objects based on values from other fields.
[Optional] Enable Display a default object when this field appears in a customer portal to prefill the field using the Filter Work Scope AQL.
Under User interaction, select which Assets attributes users can search and view.
Select Save.
Placeholders cannot be used in the Filter scope (AQL) field on the Assets object field configuration screen.
Add an Assets object custom field to a service project
You can add an Assets object custom field to your request types and make it visible on the portal so end-users can select objects in their requests, and agents can access them directly in the work view.
When a field is added to a request type, all portal customers are automatically granted the User (view-only) role. Learn more about roles
Once an object is selected in a request, the work will appear under Connected Jira work items in the Assets view.
To test your setup:
Go to a work item.
Find your Assets object field.
Click the field to open the object, or select the graph icon to view the object graph.
