Known limitations at Jira launch

Assets is available on all paid Jira plans from launch. If you administer a paid Jira site, you can start using it straight away - you do not need Jira Service Management.

What you can do in Jira

In plain Jira, you get the core Assets platform. You can:

  • create and manage schemas, object types, objects, attributes, references, statuses, and icons;

  • search your data with AQL;

  • import and export data;

  • use object and schema graphs to see how things connect;

  • bulk edit objects; and

  • connect Assets objects to Jira work items through the Assets custom field.

What needs Jira Service Management

Some Assets features are part of Jira Service Management rather than the Assets platform itself. Portal, request, and other service-management workflows are not available in plain Jira. Where a feature is specific to Jira Service Management, it is documented in the Jira Service Management documentation.

What to do instead

If you need a capability that plain Jira does not offer, check whether it is part of Jira Service Management, and follow the linked documentation for that product. For how Assets differs across platforms, see What’s in Assets for Cloud?
