Deactivate or delete a data security policy

Data security policies allow you to control how your organization’s data is shared with users and apps. What is a data security policy?

If your organization’s security needs change you can deactivate or delete a policy.

Who can do this?
Role: Organization admin
Plan: Some rules and coverage types require Atlassian Access

Any organization admin can create, activate, deactivate, or delete any data security policy in your organization.

Deactivate a policy

If you want to stop using a policy for some reason, you can deactivate it. This will temporarily stop the policy rules from being enforced in the products, spaces, projects, or classification levels covered by the policy.

To deactivate a policy:

  1. Go to admin.atlassian.com. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Security > Data security policies.

  3. Select the policy.

  4. Select Deactivate policy.

You can reactivate the policy at any time.

Delete a policy

If you no longer need a policy, you can delete it. This will permanently delete the policy and any rule configuration.

To delete a policy permanently:

  1. Go to admin.atlassian.com. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Security > Data security policies.

  3. Select the policy.

  4. Select the More actions icon (•••).

  5. Select Delete.

This can’t be undone. You can however create a new policy with the same coverage and rules.
