Link an idea to a Jira work item
When an idea is prioritized in Jira Product Discovery, you can seamlessly link it to delivery work planned and executed in Jira. Ideas in Jira Product Discovery serve as the foundational step before your team begins tracking work in Jira. You can monitor progress by creating or linking Epics or Tasks directly from the idea's delivery tab, automatically synchronizing with your target Jira instance.
To see the up-to-date delivery progress calculation, you can create or link work items across different Cloud sites, and Premium plan users can integrate Jira Product Discovery with Jira Data Center instances.
Before you begin
You need to have at least one Jira space.
Admin must create an application link for Jira Data Center integration. Check out the setup procedure and other requirements for this integration.
You must be a creator or an admin in Jira Product Discovery and have permissions in Jira to perform this action.
To create a new work item:
In Jira Product Discovery, go to the target space and select the idea you want to create a new work item.
On the right panel, select Delivery.
Select + Create work item.
From the dropdowns, select the target site, space, work type, and modify the name if needed.
(Optional) Check Embed the idea description and fields into the work item.
Select Create.
Work items are created only with the minimal set of required fields from the Create work item dialog, such as Space, Work type, Summary, and Reporter.
To link a Jira work item:
In Jira Product Discovery, go to the target space and select the idea you want to link a work item.
On the right panel, select Delivery.
Select Link a Jira work item.
From the dropdowns, select the target site, space, and work item.
Select Add.
Once the work item is created or linked, you can see the Delivery progress bar and a list of linked Jira work items. You can now track the progress directly in Jira Product Discovery and see the linked ideas inside the Jira work items.
Users must complete the authentication on their first interaction with the remote site to see a list of linked delivery items and the updated Delivery progress bar.
