Fresh terminology for automation rules and components

An automation ‘rule’ is now a ‘flow', and a ‘component’ is now a 'step’. You may notice some inconsistencies in the documentation while we make this change. Read more about the updates in Automation

Use Focus with Jira Automations

You can set up automation flows to perform common tasks as you work in Focus.

Currently, we support these actions:

  • Associate Jira issues with focus areas and keep work in sync with the right focus areas with the Link to focus areas action

  • Send Slack messages when you update focus areas with the Send Slack message action

  • Send Microsoft Teams messages when you update focus areas with the Send Microsoft Teams message action

  • Send emails when you update focus areas with the Send customized email action

Before you begin

To use Focus with Jira automations, you must also have a Focus User role with site permissions to add work to focus areas. Make sure your Focus site is connected to Jira before setting up the automation.

If your trigger or conditions are related to project automations, you must also have the appropriate project permissions:

Integrate your automation flow with Focus

  1. Go to Automation and select Create flow.

  2. Select a trigger for your flow.

  3. Optionally, select conditions for your flow.

  4. Select your desired action. This will prompt you to connect Focus to Atlassian Automation. Learn more about connections

Alternatively, you can use automation templates to link issues to focus areas.
