Use automation with Slack

Set up the Send Slack message action

You can set up automation rules to send messages to private Slack channels using the Send Slack message action. To do this:

  1. In Slack, go to incoming webhooks. You can also click the link to configure an incoming webhook in the Send slack message action.

  2. Choose a channel to post messages to (or create a new one) and add an incoming webhook. You can change the selected channel at any time from within slack or from the Send Slack message action.

  3. Copy the webhook URL from the integration settings in Slack.

  4. Paste the webhook URL in the Send Slack message action.

Send messages to a channel

In the Channel or user field, enter the #channelname (e.g.: #team-leads) to send your message to a specific channel.

Send messages to a user

In the Channel or user field, enter @MemberID (e.g.: @U123) to send your message to a specific user. Note that this isn't the same as someone's display name. You can find their member ID by opening someone's profile in Slack and selecting More () > Copy member ID.
