Using the Atlassian Rovo Slack app

The Atlassian Rovo Slack app brings Rovo’s AI-powered assistance directly into Slack, enabling you to interact with Rovo via direct messages, @mentions, or triggers in channels. This support article covers setup, usage, and key features for the Rovo Slack app

Key features include:

  • Direct messaging with Rovo:
Have a private Slack conversation with Rovo by selecting New Chat from the app home page. All DMs with Rovo use your permissions and are saved in your chat history. You can also have a private Slack conversation with a Rovo agent by searching for it from the home tab

  • AI assistance in Slack’s right sidebar
Keep Rovo by your side by selecting Add Rovo to top bar via the More actions menu (next to the New Chat button). After that, you can simply click the Rovo icon to open a chat in the sidebar. Rovo can use the channel you’re viewing for context, but your chat will be private and saved in your Slack history.

  • @Mention Atlassian Rovo:
Mention Rovo in any channel to get instant assistance. In channels, Rovo uses bot permissions to protect sensitive information.

  • Thread summarization

    • Use the message action or @mention Rovo in a thread to get concise, AI-generated summaries.

  • Configure triggers in different channels:
Set up triggers for Rovo or custom agents for specific use cases like deflecting questions in help channels. In channels, Rovo uses bot permissions to protect sensitive information.

When you add Rovo to your Slack, you’ll need to create a bot account that determines the permissions Rovo uses in public channels. Make sure you only give the bot access to information or pages that you are comfortable with anyone in your organization accessing.

または

  3. Scroll to App agents & assistants.

  4. Select Rovo from the list.

Setting up triggers in channels

  1. @ mention Rovo, and invite it to your desired channel.

  2. Type /rovo add

  3. Choose between Rovo or a custom Rovo agent from your organization. You do this by providing the agent’s URL, which you can copy from the More menu (…) on the agent’s profile.

  4. Configure triggers so Rovo, or the agent, knows when to respond in the channel. Triggers can be either emojis or keywords.

Types of triggers

New messages: Rovo, or the agent, will respond to every new channel message. It does not work in threads. If you would like to have your agent respond automatically in threads, you can turn that setting on via /rovo manage. You can only use that setting, if you have not added multiple agents to your channel.

Keywords: Rovo, or the agent, will respond to a particular word whenever it appears in a message (including in threads). The keyword must be fewer than 30 characters.

Emojis: Rovo, or the agent, will respond to an emoji reaction on a message (including in threads).

Once you’ve added an agent and set up triggers in the desired channel, you can manage Rovo and any triggers in your channel by typing /rovo manage

Replies in threads

From /rovo manage you also have the option to enable continuous replies. This setting means that any time Rovo or the agent is triggered, it will automatically reply in threads, so you don’t need to keep triggering the agent to have a continuous conversation.

Enabling continuous replies means all messages in threads will be responded to by the agent that was triggered in the first message. In other words, you won’t be able to use triggers or keywords in threads where Rovo or an agent has already been triggered.

You can have a mix of triggers, for example:

You may add the Rovo default agent to your channel and have it reply to every new message in the channel, as well as responding to the keyword trigger “Assist”. Then you may have another agent called Fact Checker added to the channel with the keyword trigger “CheckAI”. With this configuration

  • Rovo would automatically respond to channel messages

  • You can keep a thread going by mentioning the “Assist” in your replies

  • You can fact check the thread at the end with your Fact Checker agent by mentioning “CheckAI”.
