Give users access to products

Which user management experience do you have?

As an organization admin or user access admin, you can assign users in your organization a product role or add users to groups to manage access to your products.

Jira Service Management customers are users that don’t consume any of your products paid for users. Because Jira Service Management customers aren’t licensed users, you can't give Jira Service Management customers access to products, regardless of your default product access settings. For more details about Jira Service Management customers, see Set up service project users to work on requests.

Give new users access to products

First, you need to invite new users to your organization. Once you have invited a user you can assign roles that give users access to your products. Learn how to invite users

You can also configure your settings to control how users get access to your products when they first join.

Give existing users access to products

Organization admins can give existing users access to a product. User access admins can only give existing users access to products they administer. This means if a product's default group also includes products they don’t administer, a user access admin won't be able to give an existing user access to that product.

To give one user access to a product:

  1. Go to admin.atlassian.com. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Directory > Users.

  3. Select a user.

  4. Select Grant access to view a list of products the user doesn’t have access to.

  5. From the Product roles dropdown for a Product, select a product role.

  6. Select Grant access.

If you can’t see the product from Grant access, the user may already hold a role for that product. Check the user’s Product access and assign the role using the dropdown next to the product.

To give product access to more than one user, add them to a new or existing group.

To give users in a group access to a product:

  1. Go to admin.atlassian.com. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Products from the header.

  3. For the product you want users to access, select Manage Product.

  4. From the product details page, select Add groups at the top of the page. Search and select the group you want to add, choose a product role, then select Add.
    This will grant product access to all the users within that group.

  • User access admins

To give users in a group access to multiple products:

  1. Go to admin.atlassian.com. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Directory > Groups.

  3. Select the group you want to grant access to.

  4. In the Group product access table, select Add product.

  5. Select the products and the product roles you want to add, then select Add.

You can also give anonymous users (people who haven't logged in) access to your products. Anonymous users don't count towards your plan. For details about giving anonymous users access:

You can assign a product admin role to a user or add multiple users to a group that assigns an admin role.

Product access settings let you control which people have access to which products when they signup or afterwards.

To update product access settings:

  1. Go to your site's Admin at admin.atlassian.com. If you're an admin for multiple sites or an organization admin, click the site's name and URL to open the Admin for that site.

  2. Choose Product access on the left.

Give existing users product access

If you want to give one or more existing users access to a product, you can add them to new or existing groups.

Who can do this?

  • Organization admins

  • Site administrators

To give users in a group product access:

  1. If your group doesn’t exist yet, create a group.

  2. Under the product name, click Add group, search and select the group you want to add, and click Add.

To give one user product access:

  1. Under the product name, determine the group where you want to add the user. If you aren’t sure, select the group with the Default access group lozenge.

  2. Select Show group’s details from the dropdown for the group where you want to add the users.

  3. Click Add members, search and select the people you want to add, and click Add.

You can also give anonymous users (people who haven't logged in) access to your products. Anonymous users don't count towards your plan. For details about giving anonymous users access:
