Manage extra usage for a meter
Atlassian subscriptions that include meters, such as Rovo credits, Automation steps, and Assets objects, come with an allowance per meter. If your organization is likely to exceed this allowance and extra usage is enabled, you’ll continue using metered features once you reach your included usage limit.
Extra usage will be charged on your next invoice at the end of the billing period. Organization admins and billing admins will receive notifications as organizations near their limits. They may also set usage limits and have controls to adjust limits as needed. See How usage-based pricing works
What to expect when extra usage is enabled
Organization and billing admins set usage limits and have controls to adjust limits as needed.
When you reach your usage limit with extra usage enabled:
Organization and billing admins receive notifications at 80% and 100% usage.
Metered features continue to run without interruption.
Extra usage is charged on your next invoice at the end of the billing period.
For example, your Rovo credits allowance is 1,000 credits per month. Your team uses all 1,000 credits by mid-month. With extra usage enabled, they can keep using, say, another 500 credits before the month ends. You'll be charged for those 500 extra credits on your next invoice.
For most customers, extra usage is billed monthly.
Set a monthly usage limit for extra usage
To keep your spending in check, organization admins can set an extra usage limit each month. Your organization admin or billing admin can update it at any time. Once this limit is reached, no extra usage can be incurred, and metered features may be limited.
If you set your monthly limit to a number lower than the extra usage you’ve already incurred, your organization won’t be able to use metered features until usage resets.
To set a limit for extra usage from Billing in Atlassian Administration:
Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.
Select Billing from the left sidebar.
From the Subscriptions list, select the meter.
Select Update extra usage limit.
Set your limit using the slider or enter a specific value.
Select Save to confirm.
Alternatively, organization admins can also enable extra usage from Insights in Atlassian Administration:
Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.
Select Insights, then Platform usage.
Select the meter.
Select Update extra usage limit.
Set your limit using the slider or enter a specific value.
Select Save to confirm.
If extra usage is not enabled
If extra usage isn’t enabled for a meter and your organization uses 100% of your allowance, metered features may be limited until your next billing cycle. We notify organization admins when your organization has used 80% and 100% of your allowance.
Enabling extra usage depends on whether a payment method is already associated with your account. Organization admins and billing admins can both enable extra usage if a payment method is on file. If no payment details exist at the time of purchase, a billing admin must first enter the payment information to proceed. Once extra usage is enabled, organization admins can manage and adjust usage.
To enable extra usage from Billing in Atlassian Administration:
Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.
Select Billing from the left sidebar.
From the Subscriptions list, select the meter.
From the dropdown next to Get more usage, select Enable extra usage.
Alternatively, organization admins can also enable extra usage from Insights in Atlassian Administration:
Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.
Select Insights, then Platform usage.
Select the meter.
From the dropdown next to Get more usage, select Enable extra usage.
If you need extra usage beyond your total allowance, you can also consider purchasing usage packs.
Disable extra usage for a meter
Organization admins and billing admins can disable extra usage at any time to prevent usage beyond your allowance. Any extra usage used up to that point will still be billed on your next invoice.
To disable extra usage from Billing in Atlassian Administration:
Go to Atlassian Administration, Select your organization if you have more than one.
Select Billing from the left sidebar.
From the Subscriptions list, select the meter.
From the dropdown next to Update extra usage limit, select Disable extra usage.
Organization admins can also disable extra usage from Insights in Atlassian Administration:
Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.
Select Insights, then Platform usage.
Select the meter.
From the dropdown next to Update extra usage limit, select Disable extra usage.
Select Disable to confirm.
System limits on usage
All usage of Atlassian products must comply with our Acceptable Use Policy. Atlassian also applies platform-level system limits per meter as a technical ceiling on usage to protect customers in our multi-tenant environment.
System limits apply to every organization, regardless of plan or admin-configured settings, and are designed to be well above typical usage levels. If your organization reaches a system limit, extra usage is paused until the next allowance period or until additional allowances are purchased. System limits are separate from billing and do not affect your pricing or allowances.
