Edit an artifact

Atlassian Artifacts is in beta. It’s available to all paid plans. The experience may change while we improve features and add new ones.

You can refine artifacts at any time to ensure they remain accurate and useful. Maybe you need to change the color scheme or branding for an infographic, or perhaps your artifact is a dashboard that needs regular data updates.

Artifacts are versioned, so each time you ask Rovo or an AI agent to update it, it will add a new version. AI Agents can’t delete, restore or revert versions of your artifacts.

Add a new version to an existing artifact

Update an artifact using a third-party AI agent

Each artifact has its own dedicated link that you can share with any connected third-party AI agent for further editing.

To edit an artifact with a third-party AI agent:

  1. In your Atlassian environment, select the app switcher () in the top navigation bar, then select Artifacts from the list.

  2. From More actions (), select Copy link.

  3. In your third-party AI agent write your prompt, and include:

    • the copied link

    • a request for the agent to update the version in Atlassian Artifacts

You may need to ask your agent to update the published artifact in Atlassian Artifacts.

Update an artifact using Rovo

Regardless of the source that created an artifact, you can ask Rovo to create a new version. Like third-party AI agents, you can share the Smart Link with Rovo. Alternatively, you can ask directly from the artifact. The following steps show you how.

To edit an artifact with Rovo from the Artifacts library:

  1. In your Atlassian environment, select the app switcher () in the top navigation bar, then select Artifacts from the list.

  2. Find the artifact you’d like to update and select it to open it.

  3. From the top toolbar, select Ask Rovo to open a new Rovo chat session. The artifact name will appear as Rovo’s context, confirming that Rovo is looking at the right artifact.

  4. Tell Rovo about the edits you want it to make.

Rovo will automatically make the changes and update your artifact with a new version. You may need to refresh your browser to see the updates

Work with previous versions of an artifact

When you iterate on an artifact, you can view previous versions. You might want to compare an older version to the latest version, or download or share a specific version. In the version history, a lozenge indicates the version displayed on your screen.

To see a previous version of an artifact:

  1. In your Atlassian environment, select the app switcher () in the top navigation bar, then select Artifacts from the list.

  2. Find the artifact with versions you’d like to see and select it to open it.

  3. From the top toolbar, select the Version history tool to see a list of versions. The current version displays a Current lozenge.

  4. Select a different version from the list.

  5. Check the options available from the top toolbar, and select any if desired.

  6. To return to the latest version, select the Version history tool again, and select the version with the highest version number.

Rename an artifact

When you rename an artifact, its link doesn’t change. If you’ve already shared a artifact’s link or used it to embed an artifact’s content into a Confluence page or Jira work item, those links will still work.

To rename an artifact:

  1. In your Atlassian environment, select the app switcher () in the top navigation bar, then select Artifacts from the list.

  2. Find the artifact with name you’d like to change and select it to open it.

  3. In the top toolbar, look for the artifact’s name on and select it. The field will become editable, with a flashing cursor.

  4. Remove any content you don’t want to keep, and type the new name for your artifact, then exit the field.
