Use Loom playlists to curate video collections

Turn scattered videos into guided journeys with Playlists

Learn how to create, organize, and share Loom Playlists for onboarding, training, thought leadership, and much more

Loom Playlists help you curate and share groups of videos for intentional, sequential viewing. Whether you are onboarding new hires, delivering a training series, or sharing a project update, Playlists allow you to organize Looms into a single, series-based experience.

What are Loom Playlists?

Loom Playlists are curated collections of videos that you can group together regardless of where they are stored in your workspace. Unlike spaces or folders, which act as organizational containers, Playlists are designed for distribution and intentional consumption.

You can use Playlists to provide a structured path for viewers to follow. For example, a manager might create an "Engineering Onboarding" playlist that includes a sequence of technical walkthroughs and culture videos. Viewers can watch these in the recommended order or jump to specific topics that are most relevant to them.

Workspace and space behavior

Playlists are space agnostic, meaning you can curate a single collection using videos pulled from any space or folder within your workspace. However, playlists are restricted to a single workspace. You can only add videos to a playlist if they live in the same workspace where the playlist was created; you cannot add videos from a different workspace.

Create and manage playlists

You can create a playlist to group related videos and manage how they are presented to your audience.

Create a playlist and add videos

To create a playlist:

  1. Go to your Loom library.

  2. Select Playlists from the side navigation.

  3. Select New Playlist.

  4. Enter a title and description for your playlist.

  5. Select Add Video. You can search for videos by title or paste a Loom URL directly into the search bar.

  6. Select the videos you want to include, then select Add to playlist.

Reorder or remove videos

To manage the content of your playlist:

  1. Open the playlist you want to edit.

  2. [編集] を選択します。

  3. To reorder videos, select the drag handle next to a video and move it to your preferred position.

  4. To remove a video, select the More actions (...) menu on the video card, then select Remove from playlist.

  5. Select Save to apply your changes.

Permissions and roles

Playlists use a collaborative permission model that allows multiple people to manage a collection.

  • Owner: The person who created the playlist. Owners have full control, including the ability to edit content, manage collaborators, and delete the playlist.

  • Editor: Collaborators who can edit the playlist title and description, add or remove videos, reorder the list, and manage other editors or viewers. Editors cannot delete the playlist.

  • Viewer: People who can watch the videos, add comments or reactions (if enabled), and share the playlist link. Viewers cannot change the playlist's content or settings.

  • Admin: Workspace admins can change a user's playlist access level but cannot edit the playlist content or delete it unless they are also an owner or editor.

Sharing and privacy settings

You can control who has access to your playlist through the share modal.

  1. Open your playlist and select Share.

  2. To share with specific people, enter their names or email addresses and select their access level (Can view or Can edit).

  3. To change general access, select the dropdown under General access.

    • Restricted: Only people with explicit access can view the playlist.

    • Workspace: Anyone in your organization can find and view the playlist. You can also set this to Can edit to allow anyone in the workspace to contribute.

    • Public: Anyone with the link can view the playlist.

If a video in your playlist has more restrictive permissions than the playlist itself, viewers may see a "Request access" message for that specific video.

We recommend matching video permissions to your playlist's privacy settings for the best viewer experience.

Watch later

The Watch later feature acts as a personal, private playlist for videos you want to revisit. You can add any video to your Watch later list by selecting the Watch later icon on a video card or the video view page.

If a workspace is upgraded from a Free plan to a Starter or Business plan, videos currently saved in your Watch later list will not be transferred over to the new plan. We recommend making a note of important videos before completing a plan upgrade.

Owner deactivation and deletion

Loom ensures that curated content remains available even when team members leave your organization.

If a playlist owner is deleted

When an owner's account is permanently deleted, they are removed from the playlist. The playlist itself remains active but will appear with no owner.

  • Public or collaborative playlists: These remain fully functional. Any existing editors keep their permissions and can continue to manage the playlist.

  • Private playlists: These remain intact but are hidden from the workspace. An admin can access the content.

  • Taking ownership: Because ownerless playlists cannot have a new owner assigned directly, admins can duplicate the playlist. This creates a new copy with the admin as the owner. Note that this new copy will have a different URL.

If a playlist owner is deactivated

When an owner is deactivated, their profile data is preserved and still appears on the playlist, but they lose all access to the workspace.

  • Public or collaborative playlists: These remain active and unchanged. Existing editors can continue to manage the playlist as usual.

  • Private playlists: These remain intact. To make changes or view the content, an admin can add themselves as a collaborator with editor permissions.

Admin capabilities

Admins have oversight of playlists to ensure security and compliance within the workspace.

  • Access management: Admins can view the share settings of any playlist and adjust user permissions or general access levels.

  • Public playlist control: Admins can see a list of playlists and remove public access if a playlist contains sensitive information.

  • Content recovery: In the event of an owner leaving the company, admins can use the duplication workaround to ensure important training or onboarding playlists are not lost.
