What are directories?

Each organization contains two types of directories:

  • a local directory

  • an identity provider directory

We create a default authentication policy in each type of directory.

A local directory contains users you’re not managing in your identity provider. You invite these users or they sign up themselves.

An identity provider directory contains users you manage in your identity provider. You provision users through SCIM or Just-In-Time to your Atlassian organization. You can add and move users between authentication policies in different directories.

You’re only able to enforce single sign-on in authentication policies of an identity provider directory.
