Configure tools for Rovo agents
Tool configuration lets you set specific input values for supported tools in Rovo Agent Studio. Configure values such as a Jira space, work item type, or Confluence space to help your agent perform actions in the correct location.
Why configure tools?
Agent instructions provide useful guidance, but natural language instructions can be interpreted differently from one conversation to another. Tool configuration lets you define approved values directly in the agent setup.
Configured values can make agent actions more reliable and predictable by reducing the risk that the agent chooses the wrong Jira service desk, Confluence space, or other destination.
Before you begin
Make sure you have permission to edit the agent in Rovo Agent Studio.
Decide whether the configured tool should be added to the base agent or a subagent. Configuration applies only to the agent to which you add the tool.
If you add it to a subagent, it applies only when that subagent is invoked.
If you add it to the base agent, it applies when the base agent is invoked, not when the base agent invokes a subagent.
Identify the input values that should be fixed, such as a Jira space.
Configure a tool
Open your agent in Rovo Agent Studio.
Open the Tools section.
Add a supported tool to the selected agent, or select a tool that is already included.
Select the gear icon next to the tool name to open its configuration settings.
For each input that you want to fix, select the appropriate value.
Save the configuration.
Test the agent with an example request.
Edit or remove a configured value
Open the agent that contains the configured tool.
Select the gear icon next to the tool name to open its configuration settings.
Select a different value to update the configuration, or remove the value to let the agent determine it at runtime.
Save the configuration and test the agent again.
Supported tools and inputs
Only the following tools support configuration today:
Supported tool | App | Configurable inputs |
|---|---|---|
Raise a request | Jira Service Management | Service desk, Request type |
Create content | Confluence | Space, Parent content item, Content type (page or live doc) |
Edit content | Confluence | Content, Status |
Comment on page | Confluence | Page |
Limitations in the first release
Tool configuration is limited to a small set of supported tools today.
Smart values and system variables are not supported as tool input values.
Configuration does not automatically apply to another agent or subagent, you must replicate the tool configuration across subagents if desired.
Test a configured tool
Send a request in a chat session that uses the configured base agent or subagent.
Check that the base agent or subagent uses the configured destination and values.
Review the action plan and result.
If the result is not correct, return to the base agent or subagent configuration and edit or remove the relevant value.
