How to start recording

Once you've installed the Loom recorder, visit these quick guide on getting started with the Chrome extension and the desktop app.

Should I record with the desktop app or Chrome extension?

Both will produce a great recording result, but there are differences in their functionality.  For quick, easy recordings made from within your browsers, you can record with the Loom Chrome extension. If you'd like some added features, such as HD recording and drawing tools, swap to the Loom desktop app.

For a side-by-side feature comparison, check out our pricing page.

How to share your videos

Simply copy and paste the video URL link into an email or another platform you use to communicate, like Google Classroom. Think of it as sharing the link of a news article or a YouTube video. You can paste the link anywhere and anyone can click the link to watch it, as sign-up is not required to view.

If a recipient claims they need permission to view your video, you may have accidentally added a privacy setting to your video. For a full list of sharing options click here.

How to record a presentation

You can record presentations with Loom using the Chrome extension or the desktop app. However, the Chrome extension will not populate the camera bubble, so if you're recording a Keynote or PowerPoint presentation you'll want to use the Loom desktop app.

This article will show you how to record your presentation with both applications.

How to use the drawing tool

The drawing tool is a great way to provide feedback and make quick markings on your screen as you narrate. Please note that markings will disappear after a few seconds. This is the intended behavior to keep your screen clear and clutter-free.

This article will show you how to use the drawing tool. This is only available on the desktop app.

FAQ

Can I meet with colleagues or students in a real-time video session?

No, Loom is an asynchronous communication tool. With Loom, you can record your camera, microphone, and desktop simultaneously.

However, the ability to conference call and conduct live video sessions with multiple people is not possible with Loom. If you'd like to meet in real-time we suggest using Zoom or Google Meet.

How can I flip my camera so I can read the text in my video instead of a mirror image?

For the desktop app: Open the recording menu, select the three little dots in the upper corner, click on preferences, and toggle on or off the 'flip camera' option for your desired effect.

For the Chrome extension: Open the recording menu, select the 'show advanced options' and check or uncheck the flip camera box option for your desired effect.

I submitted my Education email to be verified, but haven’t heard back.
