Understand permanent video deletion
Permanent video deletion is the irreversible removal of video data from Loom’s servers to comply with privacy and data protection standards. Once a video is deleted, all associated data is purged from the system, meaning the video can no longer be accessed, even with the original link.
This process ensures your data privacy and security by permanently removing content that is no longer needed.
For example, an educational organization using Loom might permanently delete recordings containing sensitive discussions after a project is completed. This ensures the organization complies with strict data retention policies and prevents unauthorized access to information in the future.
How does video deletion work?
Because Loom Support can’t recover deleted videos, it is recommended to use the archive feature for content you may need later.
Only the video owner can delete videos from their library; other users can’t delete another creator’s content even if they have edit permissions. These are specific scenarios where content is permanently removed:
Manual deletion: When the video owner chooses to delete a video, it is immediately and permanently deleted.
Workspace admin actions: If a workspace admin deletes the video owner’s account, they have the option to permanently delete all of their content during the off-boarding process.
Account closure: If a user deletes their Loom account, all content owned by them across all of the workspaces they’re a member of is permanently deleted.
How does video archiving work?
Archiving hides videos from your main library without purging the data, allowing you to restore them at any time. This provides a safety net against accidental loss while keeping your workspace organized.
