Record a custom-size video

If you are on a Business, Business+ AI, Education, or Enterprise plan recording on Mac or Windows using the Loom desktop app, you can crop and record a specific section of your screen using custom-size recording mode. This way, you control exactly what the viewer can see.

The minimum size for a custom size video is 251 x 251 pixels. Keep in mind that using a smaller custom size can affect the resolution of your video.

For example, if your selected area is too small to support 4K, the system may automatically downgrade the recording resolution. To maintain higher resolutions, be sure your custom recording area is large enough.

To record only your preferred section of your screen:

  1. Launch the Loom desktop app, then select Custom Size as your capture mode.

  2. Drag to highlight the area in which you'd like Loom to record.

  3. You'll see the exact pixel dimensions displayed in the bottom right corner as you adjust your recording box.

  4. Once you're happy with the space selected, select Start Recording (or cmd + shift + L).
