Edit your Loom video
How to trim using Loom's classic editor
Use Loom’s Chrome extension to trim recordings, split clips, delete sections, and fine-tune edits for a polished final video.
Use Loom's trim and stitch features to turn multiple videos into one and remove content. Loom provides you with the following editing options:
Trim (waveform): remove sections of your video using an audio waveform.
Edit by Transcript: identify and remove portions of video using your transcript.
Stitch: combine multiple videos into one.
Video editing features, including trimming and clip stitching, are exclusive to paid plans.
We recently updated our editing suite. Your editing suite may look slightly different as we slowly release editing improvements for everyone, such as zooming via the waveform.
Trim with the waveform editor
Available on Business, Business + AI and Enterprise.
Our classic trim method allows you to identify and remove part of your video using an audio waveform.
You will only be able to make up to 300 trims per clip. You also will only be able to trim videos that are five hours or less in length.
Trim the Start or End of the video:
After recording, select Edit from the video side panel, then select Edit your video.
You have now entered trimming mode. Trim the beginning or end of your video by dragging the Trim bar handles to where you would like the video to resume.
If you'd like to be extra precise, you can zoom into specific parts of video using the Fit tool. This will give you the most accurate trim possible.
Once you're happy with your trim edits, select Save Changes.
Trim a section in the middle of your video
Select Edit from the video side panel and then Trim and Stitch.
Select the section of the video you want to remove and select Split. The split feature divides the video into two clips.
The split clips can now be trimmed by dragging the handles at the end of each clip.
Any portion of the timeline in a light gray color without a timestamp will be removed from the video.
You can also delete a selection of your video by holding and dragging the portion you wish to remove.
You can trim multiple clips in the same trimming session. You can also go back and edit the trims you previously made. Once you're happy with your trim edits, select Save Changes.
Edit by transcript
Check out a video demo of this feature.
Available on Business + AI and Enterprise.
Edit by Transcript allows you to identify and remove portions of video using your transcript. Your footage doesn't have to be scrubbed over and over again to remove bad takes. Now, you can just peek at your transcript to find those mishaps. Simply highlight and remove them.
Open the video share page of the video you want to edit and select Edit by Transcript.
From here, highlight the word or sentence you want to remove from your video and select Trim.
You will also be able to see the all the changes you make in your waveform editor as well.
If you make a mistake you can use the clock icon at the top right to undo or select directly on the word or sentence you want to undo.
If you need help finding a section to trim out, you can use the search feature to find the word or sentence.
Once you are happy with your edits select Done.
Stitch multiple videos together
Available on Business, Business + AI and Enterprise.
Stitching clips together allows you to do the following:
Create content collaboratively (stitch Looms with others).
Create cross-platform videos (stitch mobile+desktop Looms).
Create Looms with reusable content (stitch in an intro or outro for sale demos).
Add a topic into a Loom (stitch in the content you forgot to mention).
How to stitch a video:
Open the video share page of the video you want to add clips into.
After recording, select Edit, then Edit your video.
From here, you will want to select Add Clips under your video. You can then choose which video you want to stitch by:
Selecting a video from a list of your recently created Looms.
Search your existing Loom by keyword.
Directly add a Loom URL for a video that you or someone else has created.
Once you have selected a video, you will see that the video has been added as a clip to your existing video. If you wish to reorder your clips, you can do so by clicking the arrows below each clip.
Repeat the process if you would like to add more clips.
Once you are finished editing, select Save.
If you have a Creator Lite role on a paid plan you will be able to use trimming features such as Stitch but you'll have a five-minute video duration. This means if you stitch videos together and the total length exceeds five minutes, you'll need to trim the video down to five minutes or less.
What to do if your trim gets stuck?
If your trim has been processing for over 30 minutes, it's possible there was an error during the process. But don't worry, your video is not lost! Here are two ways you can fix this:
Open back up the trim page, slightly adjust one of your current trims, and then publish the minor change. This will reprocess all of your trim and should enable your video to process successfully.
Open your trim page, select Revert to Original, then restart your Chrome browser. From here, you should be able to successfully trim again.
FAQ
What video clips can I stitch together?
You can stitch any videos you or other teammates have created (this includes creators outside of your workspace).
If you want to stitch a video from another creator, you will need the following: the video URL, access to view, and the video will need Viewers can stitch video enabled.
What happens to the original video of clips added?
Nothing! No changes will be made to the original video source of clips added.
How do I allow others to add my video as a clip?
Anyone can add your video as a clip as long as they have the video URL and your video has Viewers can stitch this video to others enabled in your Video settings.
How do I block others from adding my video as a clip?
If you don’t want your video to be accessible to other creators for stitching, all you need to do is toggle off Stitch from Video settings. This will prevent others from being able to add your video as a clip to theirs. If you wish for none of your videos to be added by others, set your Default settings with Stitch disabled.
Can I re-order trims within a video clip?
No, you will only be able to re-order video clips added. For example, if you trim out a video part in an added clip, as seen below, you will only be able to move that entire video clip, not the trims within the clip.
