A custom filter is a saved and reusable search term that helps you find issues in team-managed projects. Custom filters are defined by queries, which are written using JQL (Jira Query Language). These filters are only applicable to the board and backlog, and are limited to a single project.
If you’re a project admin, you can manage custom filters by going to your board or backlog, then selecting … > Manage custom filters. You can also access this page by going to Project settings > Board > Custom filters.
To create a custom filter in team-managed projects:
From your board or backlog, select … > Manage custom filters.
Select Create custom filter.
Enter a name and description for your filter.
Enter a filter query using JQL (Jira Query Language) to tell Jira what issues you’re looking for. As you type, Jira will validate your query and offer a list of autocomplete suggestions based on your query’s context.
Once your query is validated, select Create.
To edit a custom filter in team-managed projects:
From your board or backlog, select … > Manage custom filters.
Find the filter you’d like to edit and select … > Edit.
From here, you can edit the name, description, and query for your custom filter.
To save your changes, select Update.
To delete a custom filter in team-managed projects:
From your board or backlog, select … > Manage custom filters.
Find the filter you’d like to delete and select … > Delete.
Select Delete in the confirmation modal to finalize your action.
Note that deleting a custom filter won’t remove any issues from your project.
