Resolve Confluence disk space errors

This recommendation appears when detect one or more Confluence index disk space errors within the evaluation window. Confluence index disk space errors occur when Confluence fails to create or restore an index snapshot because there is insufficient disk space in the local temporary or shared home directory. This can cause stale search results and degraded user experience.

Signals used

The following conditions need to occur together for us to detect this issue:

  • One or more confluence-index-disk-space-error events are captured within the evaluation window.

  • When degradation of ready-for-user (RFU) time is observed in the evaluation window.

Error detected

The Error detected section of the recommendation provides the number of index snapshot errors that occurred due to low disk space.

To resolve this issue, we recommend that you free up disk space on the Confluence home directory. Here are some actions you can take:

Expand disk capacity

Increase the partition hosting <confluence-home>/index and <confluence-home>/temp to have at least two times the current index directory size in free space. In DC environments, also ensure the shared home has adequate space. More on how to free Confluence disk space

Clean up old files

Remove old log files, heap dumps, and temporary files from the Confluence home directory. Check for orphaned index snapshots in <shared-home>/index-snapshots.

Rebuild content indexes

After freeing space, trigger a full reindex. Read how to rebuild a search index
