Allocate positions in your reporting line

Allocating positions to focus areas are how you record workforce planning decisions. Managers can allocate positions in their reporting line one position at a time, or product admins and those with additional permissions can allocate positions in bulk with a spreadsheet.

Before you begin

  • Talent must be connected to Focus

  • Your focus area hierarchy must be defined in Focus, and focus areas exist

  • You must be a:

    • Manager

    • App admin

    • User part of a group with permission to allocate positions

  • Your position data must be synced from Workday

Allocate a position

  1. Select Manage positions from the left navigation.

  2. Search for positions to allocate, or use the Manager filter to select yourself.

  3. Select the focus area field and a dropdown menu appears.

  4. Select the focus area to allocate this position to.

The position is now allocated to the new focus area.

Allocate multiple positions at once

  1. Select Manage positions from the left navigation.

  2. Search for positions to allocate, or use the Manager filter to select yourself to see your reporting line.

  3. Select the checkbox on each position you want to allocate.

  4. Select Allocate from the menu that appears.

  5. Select the focus area dropdown menu and choose which focus area to allocate all selected positions to.

  6. Select Allocate to confirm.

All selected positions are allocated to the chosen focus area.

Remove a position’s allocation

  1. Select Manage positions from the left navigation.

  2. Search for the position you want to clear the allocation for, or find it in the table using filters.

  3. Hover over the focus area field for a position and select the 'x' to make the position no longer allocated to any focus area.

    1. Alternatively, select the checkbox on each position then select Remove allocation to clear the allocation from multiple positions at once.
