Conversation starters

Conversation starters are suggested questions or instructions for users when they start a chat with your Agent. They’re helpful for people who may not know what to ask your Agent.

When someone starts a new Chat with an Agent, they’re presented with three conversation starters, for example:

  • Tell me about yourself.

  • What can you help me with?

  • Summarize what I’m looking at.

People interacting with your Agent can either select a conversation starter, or write their own prompt.

Although not required, we strongly recommend you create conversation starters for your Agent. They provide people with the kinds of questions or instructions your Agent is best at working with.

If you chose to create your Agent using chat (instead of skipping to manual setup), we’ll generate conversation starters for you, but you’ll be able to edit them before finalizing your Agent.

If you leave the field blank, your Agent will use generic conversation starters.

How to create conversation starters

When manually creating or editing an Agent, add up to three options in the Conversation starters field. Once you save the changes, they will appear the next time someone starts a chat with your Agent.

Conversation starters can be questions or instructions. Try to use examples that show off what your Agent can do.
