Configure outgoing mail in Jira Cloud
Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian apps on the cloud platform.
Summary
In Jira Cloud, Outgoing Mail can only be enabled or disabled — there is no SMTP server to configure. As an Org admin, you can set a custom email address so Jira sends on behalf of your domain.
Solution
Access Outgoing Mail configurations
To access the settings below, the user must have the Administer Jira global permission.
As a Jira administrator:
Navigate to ⚙️Settings > System
Select Outgoing mail
When Outgoing Mail is disabled, it shows who disabled it and the timestamp of the change.
What are the impacts of disabling Outgoing Mail?
Disabling Outgoing Mail stops all notifications from jira@<domain>.atlassian.net. Notifications are not queued — actions taken while disabled generate no notification, and re-enabling only affects new actions.
For JSM, disabling also removes the "Forgot Password?" link on the Customer Portal login page.
What types of notifications won’t be affected?
Actions via admin.atlassian.com (user invites, access requests, join notifications) — sent from a separate address.
The Automation Send email action — still sends even with Outgoing Mail disabled (see AUTO-112).
