Set a budget for a focus area

A budget sets the total funding target for a focus area over a fiscal year.

You set budgets at the focus area level, not on individual cost or benefit items. You can also set budgets for sub-focus areas to break down funding across teams or workstreams.

Before you begin

  • You need the Manage budgets group permission in Focus. If you don't see the edit icon next to the budget amount, contact your Focus administrator.

Set or update a budget

  1. Open a focus area and select the Funds tab.

  2. Select the edit icon next to the budget amount in the summary tiles.

  3. In the set budget window, use the fiscal year picker to select the year you're setting the budget for.

  4. Enter the budget amount for the focus area.

  5. To break down the budget, enter amounts for any sub-focus areas listed below the parent.

  6. Select Set.

The budget amount appears in the summary tiles at the top of the Funds tab.

Things to know

  • Budgets are set per fiscal year. Use the year picker arrows in the modal to navigate between years.

  • You can update a budget at any time. Changes take effect immediately in the summary tiles.

  • Setting a budget for a parent focus area doesn't automatically distribute it to sub-focus areas. Set each level separately.
