Unable to receive notifications as a watcher of spaces and pages

Platform Notice: Cloud Only - This article only applies to Atlassian apps on the cloud platform.

Summary

After the users add themselves as watchers of pages and spaces, no notifications are sent when a page is edited or created.

In most cases this isn't a bug — Confluence now bundles watcher notifications into a once-daily digest email sent the next morning instead of sending one email per change. If you want per-change emails again, skip to the Solution below to disable Daily Digest.

Diagnosis

  • As an administrator of Confluence, make sure the Email notification option is enabled under the Further configuration option of Confluence's administration. Otherwise, all notifications from Confluence will be disabled.

  • Check if the users are still receiving notifications for mentions and page sharing.

  • Make sure that the notifications of Confluence are not being blocked or going to the Spam folder of the e-mail service.

Cause

With the introduction of the Daily digest feature, instead of receiving an email per each page creation and change, a daily digest will be sent the next morning, including all changes that happened for watched content in the previous day. For example:

This means that the user will not receive the notifications as soon as the pages are created and/or updated for the content being watched.

Solution

If the user wants to receive a notification for each change, this setting can be disabled with the following steps:

  1. In Confluence, tap the profile icon at the top-right and select Settings.

  2. Select the Email option from the sidebar. It will give a URL like this: https://INSTANCE.atlassian.net/wiki/users/viewmyemailsettings.action

  3. Tap Edit and uncheck all the sections under the Daily Digest section:

  4. Tap Submit to save the change.

ℹ️ Note that this is a change applied at a profile level, meaning that every user who wants to resume with the individual notifications will need to go through these steps.

✅ Verify it worked

  1. Ask a colleague (or use a second account) to make a small edit to a page you're watching — Confluence does not send you notification emails for your own changes, even on watched pages.

  2. Wait a few minutes — individual notification emails in Cloud may take 2–5 minutes to arrive.

  3. Confirm an individual notification email arrives in your inbox (check your spam/junk folder if it doesn't appear).

If no email arrives after several minutes, revisit the Diagnosis checklist above — the issue may be a site-wide email notification setting rather than Daily Digest.
