Unable to see issues for a quick filter set up on the Board

Summary

Find out why work items might not appear on your board when you apply a quick filter in Jira Cloud, and how to fix it.

Environment

Jira

Steps to take if you're experiencing this problem

  • Run the JQL used by the quick filter in advanced search. Check whether the search returns the work items you expect.

  • If the search returns the work items but the board doesn't show them, check their status. Look for work items in a Done category status that haven't been updated within your board's timeframe for completed work

  • Check your board settings to see whether the board hides completed work items after that timeframe.

Solution

The board was set to hide completed work items after 2 weeks. You can change this setting on the General page of your board settings.

Check the completed work items setting

On company-managed kanban boards, you can hide completed work items after a set time. You need to be a board admin, or a space admin for the board's location, to change this setting.

  1. Next to your board's name in the sidebar, select More actions (•••), then Board settings.

  2. On the General page, find the setting that hides completed work items. You can hide them after 1 week, 2 weeks or 4 weeks, or show all completed work items.

  3. Select a longer timeframe, or choose to show all completed work items.

  4. Go back to your board, apply the quick filter again, and check that the work items you expect now appear.

Note: Kanban boards treat a work item as complete when its status is in the Done category, whichever column that status is mapped to. Editing a completed work item resets the timer, so it can reappear on the board until the timeframe passes again.
